After a short break, we are back into the translations scene, with a new project! Rocket Girls, episode 1, now available on the torrents.

For those who await translations of Tale of Saiunkoku season 2, we are currently awaiting further information regarding the licensing of season 1. In good faith, we will treat the licensee of Season 1 to also have the license for Season 2; further developments are necessary before we can continue on that line.

Rocket Girls? There truly is no accounting for taste...

If you don't like it, you don't have to watch it.

how about a thank you! I have been downloading the raws for this show ever since it came out.

It is funny and has rockets!

What hooked me was episode 2, where we see our heroine trying to use a HP41 calculator (Reverse Polish Notation)just like the one I own :)

So thank you We Suck Fansubs! :D

This series is awesome, we need more jokes about Reverse Polish notation! Can't wait for episode 2, keep up the good work!

It's good to see your group has finally lived up to its moniker, lol. Just kidding, I'm glad you've decided to continue subbing and I respect your stance on the licensing of shows. Best of luck to you.

Any subbing by you guys is good. I'm fairly sure that if the first season shouldn't sell so well, they'll lapse the second season (see GALS), so I hope someone saves the raws for you eventually ^^.

I've liked everyone of your shows so far, so I'll check this out too.

And since I haven't said it yet, thanks for subbing Saiunkoku Season 1.

Out of curiosity, how long do you plan to wait re: licensing of Saiunkoku? From what I understand, all we have is a registered domain name right now. Things could stay that way for years. D:

I'm surprised you guys picked up this one... not that I'm complaining. I would love to have a sucky version of this show to watch. keep up the good work.

I'm sure we won't have to wait that long to find out if it has been picked up by Geneon. If they have it, it will probably get announced this summer at AX or Otakon, or with a guessing game or something. As for the GALS analogy.. it sounds like that person wants it not to sell well so they can download it later. That's very disheartening to read :( TRSI did pick up the second half of GALS for the fans, and it's worth mentioning that that show had no R2 release for the second half either, so it might not have sold well in Japan. Saiunkoku doesn't have that problem ^^

Anonymous said...

So are you waiting for a con announcement, or are you just giving a grace period?

Unknown said...

The problem is, no company ever comes out and says "We don't have this series." You assume they don't until they say otherwise. When something is ambiguous like with Geneon and Saiunkoku, the only thing you'll get out of waiting is (1) a long wait or (2) a license. The general consensus on the Saiunkoku LJ comm, anyway, is that, for all intents and purposes, the project has been dropped.

hi, first I'd like to say thank you for all your work. I first heard of Saiunkoku because of We Suck.

Anyway, isn't it Saiunkoku Monogatari SERIES 2? That's what it says on the raws I download and on Anime News Network. Doesn't that imply that they (anime group ex. VIZ) would have to get another license for it? I'm pretty sure it's that way with Naruto Shippuden.

One last question. Do you know which group is considering licensing Saiunkoku?

Unknown said...

I don't want to sound pushy/etc., but what does the company itself say about the Saiunkoku license?

Not that i'm dying for S2 subs or anything. :)

Sadly, this makes the THIRD group subbing Rocket Girls, and NO ONE is subbing Saiunkoku. =( That's such a shame because only one of these two shows is worth it, and it ain't Rocket Girls. ^^

Third group?

I think you counted one more group than there actually is (including us)...

Hi I just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU for Season 1. Although I am a big fan of Saiunkoku and would really like to see Season 2 subbed by We Suck, I just wanna let you know that I will respect whatever decision you make.

Keeping my fingers crossed and praying everyday that S2 is not licensed.... =)

"Keeping my fingers crossed and praying everyday that S2 is not licensed.... =)"

They don't care that season 2 gets licensed, they're dropping the project if season 1 gets licensed (which it will). They basically already dropped the project by saying they're waiting for it to get licensed. Instead of making up a lame excuse, just tell us "the fans" to have no hope. It's really that simple. *sigh*

And we don't care about US licences, America doesn't own the world nor the web so you should sub this excellent show without fear :)

I've seen no mention about even considerations for the series to be licensed on Anime News Network.

Also, the rumors might not even be true. ~Four months ago I heard a rumor about D.Gray-man being licensed in the U.S. and Canada (they share anime and manga), but it still hasn't been licensed.

Oh dear, I guess I did not read properly. I hope that We Suck decides to sub S2 then.... Pretty please.... Wags tail.... =)

I take this change to give you my deepest thanks for subbing Saiunkoku season 1 so far, and hope alle turn good with season 2.

Oh, your Subbs even reach Europa... :)

I wouldn't consider anyone a "fan" if they're unhappy when there's the prospect of an official English release of any show they like. "i can't get my free anime fast enough!!!!!!"

"And we don't care about US licences, America doesn't own the world nor the web so you should sub this excellent show without fear :)"

You're really stupid if you think they're not subbing something because they "fear" anything. I don't think they care about what you care, either. Why do you think they stop distro of the video files when there's an official R2 DVD release? It must be because of America!

"As for the GALS analogy.. it sounds like that person wants it not to sell well so they can download it later."

Dear Anonymous, no worries, if I can get licensed Saiunkoku, I'll buy it. I'm a fully employed person and spend around 100 Euros on anime and manga per month.

I'm still not able to afford all I might want to buy, but since this is the only show that has deeply impressed me in two years (apart from Kamichu), this one will be bought.

"I wouldn't consider anyone a "fan" if they're unhappy when there's the prospect of an official English release of any show they like."

I just like to say something. Actually it is not that I am not supportive and do not buy licensed anime. I buy a lot of licensed anime, but I still prefer to watch fansubs the first time because the subgroups take the trouble to translate a lot of things that companies do not bother with, such as, in the case of Saiunkoku, the meaning of "hana yori dango", the fact that both Seiran's and Ryuuki's surnames are both "Shi" but written differently, the meanings of all the names or surnames, the parts about the king giving flowers to his trusted aides, the meaning of "hana machi", the meaning of "mura saki" or purple iris that the king gave to Kyouyuu and Shuuei and so many more that I cannot remember. I have watched many official subbed versions, and they do not explain meaningful parts like this properly. I feel that fansub groups do much more justice to the anime.

I imagine that in the official release, Seiran would be called Michael Lee and Ryuuki would be called Steven Smith. Sigh.... then there would not be a need to translate what each "Shi" means which is why I feel sad....

Therefore, even though I buy the official releases when they are out to support them, I still prefer watching the fansubs. We Suck especially, puts a lot of effort into their fansubs, and for this, I salute you!!

It's nice to see you guys pick up Rocket Girls. Would you consider taking on the challenge of subbing Ooedo Rocket as well?

I hear good things about Ooedo Rocket, but no fansubs from anyone. Plus, how could you resist monopolizing all the Rocket shows !

Anonymous said...

*sigh*

First of all, thanks for subbing Rocket Girls. But can everybody who likes to see Saiunkoku subbed please discuss this topic under another news entry?

Geneon has closed it's doors in the US. Does that mean you guys can sub season 2?

<Torgen> Next I'll claim that my translations are perfect, and any apparent errors are really elaborate typos.

<Torgen> naturally.
<_bla_> Torgen: why is group called "we suck" then not "my keyboard sucks" ?
<Torgen> typo.

<Tyreal|Sucks> Torgen: how DID you do those DVD type subs by the way :P
<Tyreal|Sucks> just got fonts that looked like that, or used an actual dvd subtitling proggie
<Torgen> It's Arial.
<Torgen> I used TextSub.
<Tyreal|Sucks> ahh
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> Torgen: THERE YOU ARE
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> Torgen: do you really think I suck ;_;
<Torgen> no.

<Torgen> I was a little worried that it'd be interpreted that way, though.
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> Torgen: nah, I just laughed for about 2 hours
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> When I started getting pm's about it
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> "You're from we-suck"
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> apparently we-suck is popular with the french
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> Don't ask me why XD
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> They say they want to "worship you"
<Torgen> I'll put you in parenths next time so it's clear you just post the raws.
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> no, put Tyreal|Sucks in there
<Tyreal|Work|Sucks> I'm amused by this now, I kind of like it XD
<Shouta> <WeSuck> You = my bitch
<Torgen> Yeah, it's like taking the ghost suit of the ghost lego man and putting it on the astronaut lego man.
<Torgen> The ghost lego man is now just a normal lego man with a featureless face.
<Torgen> while the astronaut gets to look out through the ghost suit's eyeholes.

<Torgen> but he sounds uncultured;
<Torgen> not rogueish.
<Torgen> it's like, if he said "wanna come over and watch the game?" I'd take a moment to realize that was an anachronism.
<arcImpulse> if you think he sounds weird... just wait till we get to Eccentric Kou
<arcImpulse> and you'd be like...holy anachronism~~
<Torgen> what, does Kou sound like a robot or something?
