A public service announcement: please don't try what goes on in Rocket Girls, episode 2, at home. Especially not with the guns.

In other news, no, you will not be able to convince us to break policy for subtitling Tale of Saiunkoku season 2.

I normally find anime based on the idea "put moe girls into mecha/spaceships/whatever" lame, but I found this one really funny so far for some reason. Therefore I advice people who dislike stuff like Xenoglossia or Stratos 4 (like myself) to give it a try nevertheless.; 5/12/2007 8:02 a.m.

Anonymous said...: I just wanted to say, that even if the 1st season of Saiunkoku has been licensed, that doesn't mean that the 2nd season has as well. Case in point, while the 1st season of Tsubasa Chronicle was licensed, the 2nd season has yet to be licensed, though it has already been a year since the 2nd season started. So, I think it's a bit unfair that you would stop all subbing of the 2nd season, when there is no evidence that it will be licensed as well.; 5/13/2007 11:50 a.m.
Anonymous said...: When purchasing licenses for the first seasons of shows, most companies also get the option in their contract to license any subsequent seasons well. Whether they choose to use this option or not is based on the sales of the R1 DVDs.

I really hope that somebody picks up SM 2 and if only to stop the whining. Yes, fansub groups are a legitimate target of critique for how they are doing something, even if it's for free. But cricitizing them for what they do let alone for what they don't do is ridiculous.

We Suck, please keep up Rocket Girls! Up to now you were playing Jazz to an audience of jazz fans and now you switched to Hip Hop while the jazz fans are still in the hall. No wonder you get booed. Just wait and see, soon the jazz fans will go somewhere else and the hip hip crowd will start streaming in. :)

I for myself have seen enough SM. A so-called "romance" that is running in circles for 39 epsiodes instead of coming to an conclusion already had more chances than it deserved. They may milk the sheep for 10 more seasons but not me anymore. Thanks.; 5/14/2007 6:19 a.m.

Anonymous said...: OMG, Tsubasa. How abut some other examples of things that only have one license for a change? And good grief, it's Funi and it's Tsubasa. They know it will sell. They WANT season 2. Now that s1 is coming out, I would not be surprised if they announce it at a big summer con.

So let's talk Pioneer/Geneon. When they started releasing Fushigi Yuugi, Eikoden did not exist, but it sold well and they got it. They released all the pieces of Tenchi and El Hazard. After the sales for Snow Fairy Sugar, they got the OAVs. What I'm trying to point out is that Death Note and Tsubasa are exceptions, not the norm. Why don't we wait and see if the norm gets followed. If they don't get season 2, then someone down the road will sub it anyway, right? Oh, my bad, both of these outcomes mean you need to WAIT. Scary. I waited for the rest of GALS and got lucky. I waited for Oh My Goddess TV seasons and got lucky. You're Under Arrest, I waited but no season 2, so I went sub hunting.

However, since Saiunkoku season 1 and 2 are tied together in a way that YUA wasn't, I expect that portway through s1 they'll get s2, and just release the first volume after they finish s1, like they did with Kyou Kara Maoh. Patience will not kill you people, there are TONS of other free anime you can watch and download. Or you could buy the DVD - which, if you look at RightStuf or AoD, has been solicited and IS BILINGUAL - show the company it sells well, and ooo! there's news on season 2.

If they don't sell anime in your country, there are many, many stores that ship internationally. If the problem is you don't want to pay for your anime, then well... when the genres you like seem to take a dive from lack of $$, don't complain too much.; 5/16/2007 3:23 p.m.

Boo I say" You seem to forget that they also *professionally* translate the series from the written Japanese scripts (not just from the audio like fansubbers do) *and* provide DVDs with Japanese audio tracks and English subtitles. Believe me, it's quite easy to watch DVDs and completely ignore the English track, like I did with Love Hina and Fantastic Children.; 8/09/2007 5:40 a.m.
