We Suck Fansubs

Now I get to apologize for something. As a few of you have pointed out, and I think all of you have realized, there's a very weird line 16 minutes or so into episode 36. Here's how it happened: As you might known, MizuNoMike, who does my editing etc., is also a translator. While we were working on it, he translated our Takahashi Rumiko Theatre (which is now licensed by Geneon USA, in case you're interested), but mostly his translations are for our university's anime club. As a result, if I'm not positive on a line, I put a special code in the script, along with my comments (if any) to get his opinion on them. When he sends the script back to me after editing, he includes a report on what he put in for those lines, or if he didn't know how best to phrase it, his thoughts on the line for me to act on. In those cases I can search for my special code to find any remaining such lines and can use his advice to decide what to put in for them. This time, I must have mistyped my special code in the 'find' dialog, so it seemed that the line had already been changed, and that his comments in his e-mail back to me were of the "Here's what I decided," variety, ass opposed to the, "do something with this," variety. I then passed the script along to lavalyn, who made the reasonable assumption that the script was done. He encoded it, did spot checks for video quality and to make sure the subtitler filter had actually been applied (since I'm sure some of you remember that incident too), and released it. (Not entirely without incident either.) The reason why what's there runs off both sides is because we do all our line splitting manually, since whenever possible we prefer to split lines at grammatically convenient places, as opposed to using the 'as close to equal as possible' algorithm the subtitle filter would use. That line wasn't split up because it wasn't a proper line. What should be there is, "That's right. If we let it get to us, we'll get depressed again."
